No hypocrites
April 11, 1990
Throughout the past couple of weeks, we’ve been bombarded with letters and editorials berating SA presidential hopeful John Fallon for his recent arrest. John was allegedly caught inside Amnesia as a minor.
Now, all of the saints on campus are coming from out of their holy sanctuaries and passing judgement on the “fallen angel.” Hypocrites, spare us your rhetoric.
All of you whom have written these letters cannot say that you NEVER went into a bar as a minor (or at least tried). Please don’t try to take us for complete fools. I went into bars as a minor and I think that it’s safe to say that the majority of the students on this campus either tried or succeeded in doing so as well.
I worked as a bouncer in a local bar for more than a year, so my information is valid. On a given night we averaged about five fake IDs taken from minors and twice that were turned away for “forgetting” their IDs.
In her letter Amy Davis stated that she had seen John in bars on several occasions. She signed the letter: “Amy Davis, Freshman, Undecided”. Just how many undecided freshmen are there on this campus that are 21 or older? Sounds like Miss Davis must have a pretty good fake ID herself. (On a side note to Miss Davis, be prepared to back up your remarks about John’s Sigma Nu brothers. I don’t know where your information came from but John has one hundred percent support from us.)
I’m not condoning anyone going into bars as a minor. They take a chance at being arrested and fined if caught. If they’re not caught it still doesn’t make it right. John got caught doing something that most of us have done. Sure he broke the law, but “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
