I am utterly disgusted at the three letters published on Tuesday written by Maureen Butler, Terry Michels, and Bruno Marxx.
It becomes instantly clear that these three authors, in their attempt to “destroy” John Fallon’s chance to win SA president, are merely long-winded propagandists obviously on the side of Fallon’s challenger Rob McCormack.
The writers of these letters surely must have missed that day of freshman English class where we all learned to write at the intelligence level of our audience.
They would, collectively, have us believe that the fact of Fallon’s underage entrance to a local DeKalb bar completely erases his two years of unblemished service to the students of NIU. The mere fact that nobody has anything to say, other than personal attacks about how he spends his personal time, demonstrates his flawless record.
They would also have us believe that they were so passionately paranoid of Fallon winning next week’s election, that they claim this will lead to insurmountable detrimental harm to the students of NIU.
Although I grant that the SA president possesses some influence, any senator can testify to the fact that one person does not possess the power to run a reign of terror over the NIU students as Butler would have you believe.
I am aware, as is John Fallon, that the drinking age is 21. Are the authors of these three letters prepared to state that they have never “had a beer?” Or for that matter is anyone publicly declaring that Fallon’s challenger, Rob McCormack, has never gone out to a party or two?
Isn’t all this campaign propaganda silly? And I might add, isn’t all of it only adding to the “Ruin(ed) SA Image.” I can only hope that the students of NIU can realize when they are being insulted by such writings and see that their choice is based on real issues.
