Moronic activity

After reading the April 9 issue of The Northern Star, one can only be disturbed about comments made by SA Senator James Mertes.

Mertes said that the Philosophy Forum was “playing games” with the SA and that Senator Mertes was angry with the Philosophy Forum. If Mr. Mertes is angry at an attempt to end discrimination and the double standard of treatment some groups receive on this campus, what does that make him? The oracle at Delphi? Hardly! Most likely a moron.

I came to this conclusion after reading an excerpt from Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary which described most morons as being happy with tasks too simple and monotonous to satisfy an intelligent person.

Since Mr. Mertes, and many other SA senators for that matter, fail to grasp the logical principle of non-contradiction and voted down a resolution to ban the ROTC for discrimination yet revoke the recognition of Philosophy Forum, one can only bestow the title of moron on them for blatantly failing to think.

The other comment Mr. Mertes made about the Philosophy Forum playing games is also ridiculous and moronic in nature. If Mr. Mertes thinks that trying to correct a contradiction in the constitution of NIU and fighting against the discrimination of a group is playing games, then the only conclusion that I can render is that Mr. Mertes fails to think.

Justice and truth are ideals to be lived, not games to be played and I sincerely hope that the administration of NIU and the SA will do their duty and fight for justice and truth.
