New research associate hired
February 21, 1990
NIU has chosen a new research associate for assessment services to help spend $100,000 wisely.
Ruth Gold’s research, computer skills and experience with grant acquisition “make her well prepared to play a major role in campus assessment,” said NIU Associate Provost Lou Jean Moyer.
The Illinois Board of Higher Education allocated $100,000 to NIU for the 1990 fiscal year.
The money, to be used for assessment or evaluating purposes, has been divided into smaller grants for selected faculty members, Gold said.
“The purpose of assessment is to determine if students are receiving quality education in and out of their majors,” she said.
“My job is to assist the grant recipients,” Gold said. She said she is establishing a library of resources including research, statistics and bibliographical information in order to help NIU use funds more effectively.
Gold, who has a master’s degree in business administration and clinical psychology, was selected from five finalists out of a pool of sixteen.
Gold published psychological research in areas of child abuse, elderly abuse and suicide on college campuses.
Six NIU faculty members from the Colleges of Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering and Professional studies received assessment funds for their projects.
