Groth’s crew drops two

The NIU women’s tennis team, even in spring play with a 7-7 dual match record, dropped identical 8-1 matches at Drake University and Nebraska. NIU salvaged the weekend with a 6-3 victory against Gustavus adolphus college Saturday morning.

“It’s been a very long weekend: Drake is a tough team and Nebraska is even tougher,” Huskie women’s coach Patty Groth said.

“There were a lot of good things which happened, especially in our singles play. Hild Andersch and Lisa Boedecker played extremely well,” Groth said.

NIU earned points in each of its weekend matches at the third doubles position. Lisa Boedecker and Kris Whitney posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Drakes’ Darcy mant and Gisle Baudouin Friday. The next day Monica Larson and Kathi Kennedy combined at the three spot for straight-set wins against Gustavus Adolphus and Nebraska.

Andersch, Larson, Boedecker and Kennedy each won their respective singles matches against Gustavus Adolphus.

NIU will have a couple weeks away from the courts before resuming its spring schedule March 6 at Bradley University.
