I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of student representation on NIU President John La Tourette’s Fee Study Committee.

Our SA President Huda Scheidelman is required to represent students’ interests in determining the fate of more than $5 million of student fees for next year. As a past member of the President’s Fee Study Committee, I realize the importance of credible student input while scrutinizing our annual student fees.

The 24,000 plus students at NIU need to be spoken for by the strongest voice possible. The 24,000 of us are only allowed five members on the committee and our highest ranking student representative didn’t even show up!

It alarms me that Huda Scheidelman fails to recognize the basic concept of LEADERSHIP BY REPRESENTATION. Very few students get the privilege to represent students at such a high level. Failure to show up for meetings at this level (or even send an alternate!) reflect Huda’s lack of respect for students, weak motivation and poor leadership abilities. This demands that Huda Scheidelman be made more accountable.
