SA to focus on its art collection

NIU’s Student Association members will focus their discussion on the future of the SA art collection at the next SA meeting.
The senate meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Holmes Student Center’s Heritage room.
Brian Subatich, SA community affairs adviser, said the meeting’s main topic is his recommendation on the SA art collection.
Lisa Petersen, University Programming and Activities graduate assistant, said Subatich will suggest the SA allow the Campus Activities Board to supervise the collection. CAB would determine the collection’s value and obtain a new insurance policy for the art, separate from the Swen Parson Collection policy covering the collection, she said.
Subatich said Petersen’s statement was correct, but the community affairs committee would prefer discussion of the issue at the SA meeting.
Discussion on the SA executive board’s power will continue. Many senators disagree with the board’s power. “We (the SA) are not going to let that become a dead issue,” said SA Senate Speaker John Fallon.
The senate also might discuss a letter calling for SA President Huda Scheidelman’s dismissal.
Scheidelman will inform senators on the present state of a student center charge card which should begin next fall. NIU President John La Tourette said he is working on the program and a final decision will be made at a later date.
“However, we recognize this is an important issue for students and we’re sympathic to the need for such a system because of the escalating cost of books,” La Tourette said.
