Goals defined
February 9, 1990
I am responding to a letter by the Feminist Front (Feb. 2). I had planned to ignore the Feminist Front’s rude and inexcusable actions at our memorial service, since, by the group’s behavior, they only helped to strengthen the bond of those there to fight for the unborn babies. After their letter, however, I feel I must respond for several reasons.
First of all, I am tired of Julie Stege and the Feminist Front telling everyone what the “real goals” of the Students United for Life are. I didn’t know Julie was a member of our organization, or our spokesperson. And since when did Julie, or her group, become experts on the Pro-Life movement, anyway?
Secondly, I wish the Feminist Front would learn their facts. The purpose of our service was to honor the 1.5 million babies aborted every year; it was held in their memory! There was no political cause behind it.
Our speaker, Dr. Steven Zielinski, spoke on “The Movement Into the 90s.” If he spoke of political action, he did so to stress that the political arena is where our fighting is turning to in the new decade. I don’t understand how Julie, or any Feminist Front member, can feel the authority to relate our speaker’s words since they were busy stomping, burping, and yelling obscenities in the back of the room. (By the way, our group is Students United for Life, not “Students for the Right to Life.”)
One last point I must make is that our group, as a whole, does not feel humans are “inherently evil.” We are dedicated to the cause of life; we believe that all life is precious and good, whether that life is inside or outside of the womb.
The REAL GOAL of Students United for Life is to educate people on the subject of abortion. I believe that the Feminist Front’s “anti-human ideology” is dangerous, and has proved to be so to the over 24 million babies who have lost their lives to abortion already.
