Iowa, Badgers halt men, women lose

News wasn’t so hot for the NIU men’s and women’s gymnastics teams over the weekend.

The men’s team, lacking depth and consistency, fell prey to the University of Iowa (271.70) and Wisconsin (260.75)—NIU compiled a score of (227.45).

“We were extremely inconsistent, missing 50 percent of our routines,” said Huskie head coach Chuck Ehrlich. “There are problems we have to get straight in the gym. We can be great with the talent we have.”

For Bobbie Cesarek’s women’s squad, a loss to Iowa drops the team’s dual meet record to 1-1. In the match, a 182.90-179.90 result, the Huskies started out strong in the floor excercise and vault, but had trouble with both balance beam and the uneven parallel bars.

Lori Lebo shared first place in the vault (9.45), while Martha Unger and Laurie Vitallo captured the top spot in the floor excercise (9.50) for NIU.
