Opinion unfair

I’m writing in response to James R. Hart’s letter (Nov. 28). Mr. Hart, I hope you realize that not only blacks complain about racism.

Therefore, your statement, “as usual, a black person cried racism” was unfair. The example of Jimmy the Greek was a very weak one. Jimmy the Greek made a racial joke/remark over national airwaves, and subsequently lost his job. Jesse Jackson’s remark about the Jews cost him a lot of votes and credibility. Both individuals paid a price for their loose tongues.

You also touched upon the issue of Martha Palmer’s termination. You don’t have the facts, nor do I. The only thing either of us can say is that she and most of the black student population felt it was racially, and sexually (as in sexism) motivated.

The fact that the director of the CHANCE program and Martha’s boss was black, does not mean that racism could not have been involved. Remember, Northern Illinois University is a predominantly white university, and all the “trump” cards are held by white administrators.

Oh, let’s not forget your sob story about “whites coming out at the bottom,” pertaining to the discrimination issue. The CHANCE program here has both minorities and non-minorities (whites) in their program – FACT. For a black to be hired over a white in the real world he must be just as qualified or more.

I’d like to believe that I can get into Northwestern’s law school but, because I’m black, I find it hard to swallow. I realize that if my grades aren’t up to par the fact that I’m black won’t make a damn difference, and if it does, it won’t be positive. So stop all your whining about Affirmative Action and blame your failures on something else.

Mr. Hart, have you ever been to Black Greek Party? No? Why not? It’s held at the Holmes Student Center and always open to everyone. What do you want? A private invitation? Wake up! Oh, and what will whites be called if they started a White Greek Council, or a White Student Union? Well, according to “The Monitor” September 1987 issue, a White Student Union developed into a racist group called the Aryan Youth Movement.

There are also other names for some White Student Unions such as: White Aryan Resistance, Young Americans for Freedom, Skinheads, Great White Brotherhood of the Iron Fist and of course, the infamous Ku Klux Klan. These organizations claim they’re out to save the world — whose world?!

Last, but not least, James dear, if you want to wear a “white by popular demand” T-shirt, go right ahead. Don’t condemn how we express our heritage because remember, your forefathers stole it from us hundreds of years ago. This time we are keeping it, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
