It’s not drivers
November 6, 1989
For the past few weeks I have been reading many comments about minorities on campus who are being mistreated. One minority on campus that I have witnessed abuse against is the NIU Huskie Bus driver. Several times, I have seen pedestrians walk in front of a Huskie bus, forcing the bus to a sudden stop, and passengers automatically blame the driver in some way. It never occurs to them that many NIU students walk in front of traffic all the time with their heads in the clouds. I also have seen cars cut in front of a bus, endangering the bus passengers, just to park one block away.
Having the Huskie line is a convenience. The drivers put up with a lot of abuse while they are driving, and I think it’s time for students to show some appreciation toward them. In response to a letter written several weeks ago, yes, the bus drivers do know what the white lines in the road mean. It would help if pedestrians used them more often.
