Dad’s Place: cozy tavern, home cooking
November 30, 1989
If you’re seriously hungry, the place to stop at is Dad’s Place, 306 W. State St. in Geneva. It’s a dark but cozy homestyle restaurant and tavern where you can grab a booth and some good food, too. The half-pound hamburgers are the favorite food of the old and young crowds alike.
Other entrees at Dad’s Place include Italian beef sandwiches, soup, chili, and pita sandwiches, and everything is made right within the restaurant.
For entertainment you can play video games, a game of darts or listen to the jukebox. There’s also a patio out in back where in the summer you can take your drinks, talk or just look at the stars.
Owners Paul and Ruth Anne Wise opened the place two years ago. It’s named for both of their fathers who owned taverns in the town of Elburn. Ruth Anne says she grew up in the restaurant atmosphere and feels comfortable working in one of her own.
There’s a regular older crowd that visits the restaurant by day, but at night it’s the popular hang-out for the college crowd. Ruth Anne says that the place was especially packed by the younger crowd over Thanksgiving weekend.
When asked to describe her restaurant, Ruth Anne says “An old-fashioned, old-time tavern.” So, if old-fashioned and cozy is the atmosphere you’re looking for, plus lots of homecooked food, Dad’s Place is the place to go.
