SA working to…

The Student Association is continually working on projects you might want to be informed about or become involved in. I am currently working to create an advisory board for the NIU Financial Aid Office. I am organizing student aid to earthquake victims in California, setting the ground work to rid our campus of styrofoam and working to make the Holmes Student Center more accessible to disabled students. The following are my advisers and some items currently on their agenda:

Academic Affairs Adviser Willie Fowler has established previous exam drop boxes around campus and a previous exam file in his office. He also has initiated academic grievance forms and is working to institute a Student Honorary Scholar program.

Campus Welfare Adviser Morenike Cheatom is assessing campus lighting and the contents of our drinking water. She also is orgainizing a handicap accessibility audit, “Clean the Lagoons” Day and AIDS Awareness Day to be held on Nov. 30.

Community Affairs Adviser Brian Subatich is doing ground work for a tenant survey, creating a housing bulletin board in the student center and utilizing avenues of communication with the city.

Mass Transit Adviser Dave Pack is creating a survey for the bus system, working on increasing the Greek Row buses with no additional costs and researching the possibility of summer bus routes. Dave is responsible for daily maintenance of the Huskie Bus System and the Late Nite Ride service.

Minority Relations Adviser Joan Clay is continuing work on the implementation of a cultural pluralism class, researching artists for a Martin Luther King Jr. statue for the commons and updating literature for Latino and black studies programs.

Public Relations Adviser Chris Hudders performs ongoing advertising for the SA. Chris is getting an SA newsletter off the ground, working on an SA newsreel to be shown before CAB films and takes charge of “Pass the Buck” complaint boxes around campus.

Recreation Adviser David Burke is organizing the transfer of nautilus weight machines from the Chick Evans Field House to the Office of Campus Recreation. He is conducting an OCR survey and scrutinizing OCR and Club Sport’s budgets.

Research Adviser Tom Elkins is organizing the SA archives, creating a video archive and performs ongoing research for SA staff and senators.
