Geneva rich with history and scenery

So, De Kalb just doesn’t have enough to offer anymore, right? You’re sick of school in the cornfields and limited social opportunities, huh? Well, a 25 minute ride east down Route 38 will bring you to the historic town of Geneva – a place where you can expect the unexpected.

Geneva boasts authentic Victorian homes on quaint gaslit streets and over 100 specialty shops to catch the interest of even those who don’t like to shop. Many of these shops are in renovated and spruced up historic buildings, which is a nice switch from the mall scene. There are also plenty of restaurants, from sidewalk cafes to formal dining to choose from too.

The town, nestled in the Fox River Valley, was established in 1835 and today still boasts the friendly and courteous people, industry, and cultural advantages that were envisioned 150 years ago.

Part of Geneva’s history can been seen right on South Third Street. Right in front of the Kane County Courthouse is an impressive memorial to all Kane County volunteers in the Civil War.

The courthouse itself has been located in Geneva since 1837, although its first site was considered inadequate and its jail wasn’t secure. Its home has been on South Third Street since 1844.
