Police search for owner of Sam’s

The DeKalb Police’s search for the owner of Sam’s Pizza, 110 E. Hillcrest Drive and 114 E. Lincoln Hwy., has led to a dead end, but employees have a few gripes.

On Thursday night, Michael J. Stafseth, owner of Sam’s Pizza, moved out of the 110 E. Hillcrest Drive location after having a liquor license revoked for selling alcohol with a suspended license.

DeKalb Police Lt. Richard Moudy said the police want to question Stafseth about more than $12,000 in damage, including a missing cigarette machine and jukebox.

“I just know that I called and found out it was closed—no one told us anything,” said Jenny Zabel, a waitress at Sam’s Pizza.

One male employee claimed the business “wasn’t doing well and in debt” and the owner had filed for bankruptcy. He also suggested Stafseth might have fled to Rockford.

The employee also said he helped Stafseth load moving trucks with restaurant equipment at the 110 E. Hillcrest restaurant, but did not know if the cigarette machine or jukebox was taken.

In Friday’s issue of The Northern Star, an article incorrectly stated the Sam’s Pizza in Sycamore had its license revoked. The DeKalb restaurant lost its license and is in no way affiliated with the Sycamore business.
