Worth response
October 26, 1989
I rarely respond to any article written by The Northern Star or any letter written and published in this paper. The letter by Joe Annunzio on Oct. 20 deserves a proper response.
To begin, Mr. Annunzio suggests that last years Student Association senate did not want me as the Community Affairs aviser. This is true, but what Mr. Annunzio failed to tell you is he too applied for my position, and was rejected by SA President Huda Scheidelman. Instead of trying to work together to benefit all students, Joe at that point, used every maniacal way he could to keep me out of the SA. It was not uncommon at that point in time for Joe to tell you one thing and behind your back twist your statements.
Mr. Annunzio continued on in his letter to say that I am using the SA Community Affairs Office as a stepping stone for a human rights ordinance. Nothing would make me more happy than to see the DeKalb City Council pass a human rights ordinance protecting all residents of DeKalb. Though, at no point in my tenure as Community Affairs adviser have I worked on, supported or lobbied for the ordinance. The Community Affairs Committee has a list of goals we wish to accomplish this school year. There is no place on this list of goals and no mention of working on a human rights ordinance.
Mr. Annunzio also says Huda should gather up her losses and search for a new adviser. If Joe knew Huda at all, which he claims, he would realize that it is difficult for her to look for a new adviser at this time. Huda, the SA executive staff and the Community Affairs Committee all have agreed upon one small fact—as Community Affairs adviser, I worked as hard as I could, and have done a good job in my position.
Finally, Mr. Annunzio got to do what he does best. He slandered President Scheidelman by saying he has a stomach ache because he helped to get her in office. Joe you forget so fast, neither candidate running for office neither asked nor wanted your help or support in their bid for the presidency. It’s unfortunate you can’t call Huda the president of the SA. But I speak for the hundreds who work with Huda on a day to day basis and every morning, bright and early I see Huda and always say, “Good morning, President Scheidelman.”
