Act of kindness
October 4, 1989
I would like to comment on a very rare occurence I experienced Sept. 28. I came onto campus to take a computer class, parking my scooter at the Swen Parson Hall bike racks and apparently leaving my keys in the ignition. I didn’t notice I’d forgotten my keys until I returned to my scooter hours later. When I approached my scooter I noticed a note attached to it that read “Please see Sandy in Rm. 276 Swen Parson.”
When I went upstairs Sandy Casey was at lunch, but I picked up my keys and left a short thank-you note on her desk. I was very moved by the kind gesture of Ms. Casey’s. With everyone complaining about rudeness of one way or another among students, staff, faculty and administration, it is refreshing to find the kind of genuine kindness and caring demonstrated by Sandy Casey. Like most students, I’ve had things stolen on campus, and my scooter could have easily just been added to that list.
So next time you’re complaining about someone’s unkind act to you, remember there are people like Sandy Casey out there. Perhaps we should all try to be a little more like her everyday—I’m sure our lives at NIU would be much more pleasant.
