Arrest suspects
October 23, 1989
The first words out of my mouth were, “Oh my GOD!” when I read the paper the other day. The article was about a black man being beaten up by five white men. The next feeling was utter OUTRAGE and UNBELIEF when I found out that the black man was a student that I tutored last year. This fellow is not the type you would expect to be involved in any type of trouble, and certainly not the type to provoke five white men to try to kill him!
My question is why haven’t these scum been arrested? The DeKalb police don’t hesitate to take blacks to jail for everything from jay walking to fist fighting, and yet these racist slime are free to run the streets. If it wasn’t for the white man that came to his rescue, where would that brother be right now? I do not like the idea of coming home late from somewhere fearing that some racist thug might do the same thing to me.
As a student of NIU and a member of this community, I want these devils put up under the jail, and left to rot. They have a witness, a license plate number and suspects. Why haven’t there been any arrests made? Have they at least been taken in for questioning?
I hope that the university takes strong action against these men, and shows everybody that they don’t go for these types of action at this university. Until then we have to be ever so careful (as if we didn’t know that already), and protect ourselves “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.”
