SA not serious
September 25, 1989
At the first Student Association Senate meeting of the year, the executives decided to waive the oath because too many senators were absent. Well, I think it’s about time that something is done about the absenteeism in the SA. It’s a new year and a fresh start so let’s try to stay on the right track.
I know that when Jim Fischer was SA president the first on his agenda was the oath of office. He would not start any business in the SA until everyone was sworn in.
The oath was not only a symbolic gesture, but it had a real significant meaning. If senators were absent he would swear those senators in every week until all senators understood the significance of their newly-elected posts.
I also remember that the senate took the oath of office twice last year to reaffirm our committment to the organization. Things need to change or we, the students, will have to change them.
