Student wins scholarship

NIU student Susan Trimby is this year’s winner of the H.W. Wilson Scholarship from NIU’s library and information studies department.

The award is for full-time study of the Master of Arts degree during the 1989 school year and was founded by the H.W. Wilson Publishing Co.

Test dates announced

The testing services office at NIU has announced dates for the following tests: Writing Skills Competency Test (WSCT), Sept. 9; Test of Spoken English (TSE), Sept. 15. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Sept. 16; Law School Admission Test (LSAT), Sept. 23; Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST), Oct. 14 and Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Oct. 14.

Concert to be presented

Salvatore Martirano an internationally acclaimed elector-acoustic composer will present a concert of original works at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

The program is in the recital hall of the music building and is sponsored by the Graduate Colloquium Fund. The public is invited and admission is free.

Department chairs named

Donald E. Ary has become interim chair of educational psychology, counseling and special education (EPCSE), and Alan M. Voelker has been named chair of curriculum and instruction, said NIU’s Dean of Education Charles Stegman.

Ary succeeds Marvin Powell, who retired this month, and Voelker succeeds Michael Henniger, who will remain on the faculty. This fall, a search for a permanent chair for EPCSE will begin.

Playnight to be held

Circle K-D Horseriders will hold Playnight at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7. Admission is free for spectators and the club meeting will take place during the first half hour.

Alumni to hold workshop

NIU’s Alumni association will sponsor the workshop “Changing Careers in a Changing World” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Hilton Inn, 3003 Corporate West Dr., Lisle.

The program is designed for those who are thinking about changing companies, jobs, or careers. A free self-assessment test will be included.
