Not enough time
September 25, 1989
This is in response to The Northern Star’s Sept. 20 editorial concerning the Student Assoiciation Senators’ lack of commitment. It was obviously written with ignorance and prejudice. We can only speak for ourselves, but as write-in candidates, we were only informed of our elected positions Sept. 15, and were not informed until 10 a.m., Sept. 17, of the first meeting that night at 6 p.m. Having prior commitments at home, and having left DeKalb Friday, it is obviously impossible for us to have known about the meeting.
We would like to know if the Star confirmed that the absent senators were not there because of their lack of commitment or their lack of information. And could it be possible that the SA, having no information on the write-in candidates, were not able to get phone numbers in time to inform all senators of the meeting. Now that we know SA meetings are Sundays at 6 p.m., we can guarantee our attendance by planning our schedule so we can fulfill all of our commitments.
In the future we can only hope the Star will make more of an attempt to substantiate their accusations.
