Not valid reasons

As an ex-senator of the Student Association, as well as an ex-member of the Internal Affairs committee, I have heard a great number of paltry excuses from senators just like Mr. Greg Potts and Mr. Jon Markese. There is no excuse for missing the first meeting of the year, especially for the reasons you claim. Although you were write-in candidates, if you want to be considered as dedicated as the other senators, you must accept the same responsibilities as the other senators.

Did you consider asking any of your fellow senators when the first meeting was? Someone else must have known because there were people at that meeting. Did you ask and ex-senator when the meeting was? (Lord knows there is enough of us around!) The meetings have been at 6 p.m. on Sundays for more than just this year. Perhaps your ignorance of the simplest and most important operations of the SA senate is what demonstrates your lack of commitment to your fellow students. I hope that when the two of you are in the “real world” you will show a little more responsibility so I don’t have to pay for your unemployment checks.

As for the crackpot who claims to be a “philosophical anarchist” or some such nonsense, fine. Be a fruitcake, but practice your anarchy on your own time. When you are at a senate meeting or conducting business anywhere as a senator, you are a representative of the students here. If you don’t want to take the oath, resign. If you don’t resign, then you should be impeached by a unanimous vote of the senate. You obviously have no concern for the students you represent and you make me sick.

A footnote to Greg Potts, Jon Markese and the rest of the new senators, do not write to the Star everytime they screw up a story or write something you don’t like because we need our trees for the dwindling forests of the world.
