Man charged with giving alcohol to minor
April 30, 1989
A Sigma Pi fraternity member was arrested after one of the two high school seniors he was charged with giving alcohol to was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital late Saturday night for possible alcohol poisoning.
Larry W. Moy, 21, 917 Edgebrook Drive, Apt. 3, was arrested by DeKalb Police and charged with the delivery of alcohol to a minor after providing alcohol to Heather S. Dinitz, 17, Arlington Heights, and Lara Clauson, also from out of town, at his apartment, police reported. Moy also took the females to a party held at the Sigma Pi fraternity house, 917 Edgebrook Drive, where they both were admitted and served alcohol. Moy told police that he knew both females are in high school.
Clauson was taken to the hospital after she was found unconscious on the bathroom floor at Lukulos Sandwiches & Pizza House, 1021 Hillcrest Drive. Police report Dinitz was arrested for accepting alcohol as a minor. Clauson was treated and released from the hospital.
Moy said he told fraternity members taking tickets at the fenced-in party behind the fraternity house that the females were friends of his. The females did not have tickets to the party but had their hands stamped and were allowed to enter.
David Stewart, temporary greek activities adviser, said the party was a philanthropic fundraiser for the fraternity. The City of DeKalb approved both a Class G license, which is necessary to serve alcohol, and dram shop insurance for the party.
