‘Chili’ to be missed
April 26, 1989
For those of you who don’t know, and those that do for that matter, a friend of mine passed away early on the morning of April 16. His name was Terrence Ortiz, known simply as “Chili” to his friends and family. Chili died in a car accident, but that’s not what this letter is about. I simply want to say a few words that my heart, so full of sorrow, yearns to say. How recent it was when we watched in awe and laughter as you twirled and spinned around the dance floor. There never passed a time when DJs played the ever-popular “house” music and each of us, no matter how little, glanced your way anticipating some wild, unexpected move. You were full of life, Chili, and that’s why I miss you. Much grief has accompanied your passing, but I have great consolation in your going to a better place. We’ll all miss you Chili, but more importantly, we’ll all remember you. Good luck man, wherever you are.
