Owens honored as team MVP
April 24, 1989
There were awards given out across the board Sunday afternoon when the NIU women’s basketball team held its 1988-89 awards banquet at the Country Inn in Sycamore.
The banquet was open to the public and about 60 people were on hand to honor the Huskies. Head coach Jane Albright and her squad compiled a 23-7 record, which was an NIU record-setting season for both men’s and women’s basketball.
Besides dining with the team, those on hand watched a slide show, listened to speakers and applauded the team’s award winners as selected by Albright and her three assistant coaches.
The Huskie award winners were as follows:
Most Valuable Player: Carol Owens, center
Most Improved Player: Kris Weis, guard
Player of the Season: Denise Dove, guard
Coach’s Award: Denise Dove, guard
Best Defensive Player: Carol Owens, center
Best Foul Shooter:Tammy Hinchee, forward
Best Rebounder: Carol Owens, center
Academic Excellence Award: Tracy Mondek, forward
