Use library stairs

As an employee of the University Libraries (Founder’s), I am well aware of the fact that the escalators are not functioning, and have not been functioning since the summer semester. It is for this reason that the university staff, faculty, and students have had to depend on other forms of transport to the upper levels of the building (i.e. they either take the stairs or they take the elevator). I am constantly amazed by the fact that so many people take the elevator as opposed to taking the stairs. It is not unusual to see as many as two dozen people waiting in the lobby to take the elevator, and then see all of them try to squeeze themselves in. I continually hear people complain about the elevators never being around to haul them upstairs, and I fail to understand the reason for the moaning. Come on, people! We are all young enough to walk up stairs. Let’s try to save the elevator for use by the handicapped and/or those who cannot walk stairs. If the elevators continue to be hammered by use as much as they have, they will soon join the escalators in the ranks of the unworking. If the elevators break down, we’ll all have to walk up the stairs anyway, so why bother? We all can use the exercize that is provided by taking the stairs.
