Student to share in Lotto winnings

A first-year NIU law student won $76.50 in Saturday’s Lotto drawing when her ticket matched four of the six winning numbers.

Jennifer Merrinette said she has mentioned her winnings to a couple of people and “one guy asked to see the ticket.”

The prize money available in Saturday’s Lotto drawing totaled more than $60 million. Merrinette’s husband collected the $76.50 Monday night.

The four numbers her ticket matched were 3, 32, 40 and 46. This was her third time playing Lotto, she said.

Merrinette said 73,343 people entered in Saturday’s drawing also had four winning numbers.

She said she does not know what she will do with the money, but referred to it as extra spending money, with the mention of a “new used car.”

This was not the first time Merrinette won a prize, she said. The first time she ever won something was when she was nine years old. She won a bicycle in a store drawing.

Several NIU law school students purchased tickets for the drawing together, she said. She did not have enough money to pool with their combined $100 in funds at the time, she said.

Ron Miller, a hog buyer from Little York, Ill., was one of four people who matched all six numbers in Saturday’s Lotto. He will collect $874,000 a year for the next 20 years, for a payoff of almost $17.5 million.

Daniel Dixon, a product engineer from Naperville, also purchased one of the four major winning tickets. He said he will split his winnings with his wife’s family, as reported on WLS-TV, Chicago.

One winning Lotto ticket was purchased at a White Hen Pantry store in Lisle. The state of Illinois will receive more than $30 million from the lottery, which will be applied to the state’s education fund.
