Concerts will feature faculty compositions
March 2, 1989
Two concerts sponsored by the school of music this weekend will feature works by NIU faculty composers.
The first concert is 8 p.m. Friday in the recital hall of the school of music. The annual event will feature works by Jan Bach, Tim Blickhan, Robert Fleisher, Oscar Haugland and Joseph Pinzarrone.
This concert will combine the talents of students, faculty and special guests. The Emergence Dance Theater will collaborate with faculty member William Goldenberg in performing Haugland’s “Eight Mini-Thoughts for Piano.”
Other faculty compositions to be performed include Fleisher’s “Meditations”, performed by Stephen Duke. Blickhan’s “Variations/Permutations” for chamber ensemble will be conducted by NIU graduate student Jeremy Hughes. Bach’s “Canon and Caccia” for five French horns will include John Fairfield. Pinzarrone’s electronic tape piece, “A Report to the Academy Redux” will feature the voice of Diane Ragains.
At 7 p.m. Sunday, saxophonist Stephen Duke will present a faculty recital, which will include two works by NIU faculty composers Bach and Fleisher.
Bach’s “Helix” for alto saxophone and chamber ensemble will be conducted by Carl Roskott. Fleisher’s “Meditations” for soprano saxophone and trumpet will feature the collaboration of former faculty member Terry Sawchuck.
Admission to both concerts is free.
