Creative art classes

The Office of Campus Recreation’s creative art center will have classes in jewelry, woodworking, ceramics, drawing, painting and photography. Classes begin the week of Sept. 25 and continue until Nov. 16. Register at OCR’s service window or call 753-9424 for more information.

Largest aerobic class

NIU’s largest aerobic class is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at the recreation center. This event is open to NIU students and community members with no admission charge. OCR fitness instructors will help instruct and advise participants on safe and effective fitness training.

Hastert fund raiser

The Hastert for Congress Committee will hold a fund raiser for congressman Dennis Hastert on Friday at the Galleon Restaurant, Route 64 in St. Charles. A press conference will begin at 5 p.m. and a reception will proceed until 7 p.m.

Soybean Day

On Saturday, the DeKalb County Soybean Association will promote soybeans at NIU for Soybean Day. The producers plan to hand out free beer nuggets fried in soybean oil outside of Huskie Stadium from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Research Administrators

Linda Schwarz, NIU’s director of Sponsored Projects, is the new president-elect of the Midwest section of the Society of Research Administrators. She also has been elected to a two-year term on the executive committee of the Mid-America section of the National Council of University Research Administrators.

World Farm Animals Day

On Oct. 2, people in the United States and nations around the world will observe World Farm Animals Day to call public attention to the abuses by intensive animal agriculture industry, which accounts for 95 percent of animals abused or killed by human beings.

Law school admission

NIU will participate in a forum designed to provide up to date information about law school admission policies and financial aid to a broad spectrum of prospective applicants. Representatives from more than 100 law schools will be at the sixth annual Law School Forum on Oct. 21 and 22.

Art work featured

“Helios Trail,” a 40 foot tall steel fabrication, will be unveiled Friday at Wayne State University’s College of Engineering in Detroit.

NIU art school professor Bruce White, who sculpted the piece, said it was named with the idea of the sun god lighting the sky, creating a trail of light.
