SA to sponsor housing fair

Students considering living off_campus next year can receive most of the necessary information today while passing through the Holmes Student Center.

The Student Association Tenant Union is sponsoring “Expo ‘88,” an informational program about living off_campus, SA Tenant Union Director Tim Goebel said.

The program will be held in the student center’s Capitol Room from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Representatives from University Housing, Students’ Legal Assistance, DeKalb city officials, Housing Code enforcers and area landlords will be available for questions and comments, Goebel said. Representatives from the DeKalb Police and Fire Departments also will be attending.

“This is an excellent way for students to meet with landlords and learn about off_campus housing,” he said.

The program will be particularly helpful to students renting an apartment for the first time, Goebel said.

Students sometimes wait until spring before making serious inquiries about apartments when actually they should gather information now to make the decision as easy as possible, he said.

“The program is designed to educate students on what’s available and how to go about renting,” Goebel said.

The program was previously held early in the spring semester but was moved to allow possible renters more time to make decisions. Goebel said by presenting the program late in the fall semester, students planning on sharing an apartment can discuss the living arrangements over the Christmas holidays.

Representatives from local apartment complexes are tentatively scheduled to attend the program.
