Paw Paw woman dies after her car crashes into bridge
November 14, 1988
An 18-year-old Paw Paw woman was killed east of Paw Paw when the car she was driving crashed into a bridge and caught on fire.
Amy B. Moran was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-car accident by DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department reported Moran was traveling east on Suydam Road when she lost control of the 1974 Mercury she was driving and crashed into a bridge. The car subsequently ignited.
The accident reportedly occurred at 11:45 a.m. and was reported by an unknown caller, sheriff’s department officials said.
The accident is being investigated by the sheriff’s department and the county coroner’s office. An inquest is pending and no foul play is suspected.
Moran, a 1987 Earlville High School graduate, lived in Paw Paw with her fiance, Billie Johnson.
Albert Johnson, father of Moran’s fiance, said Moran was on her way to Sandwich, Ill., where she worked at the local Pizza Hut restaurant.
Survivors include her father, Joseph Moran, Pontiac, Mich.; her mother, Cathy Berri, Stockton, Calif.; and three stepsisters, Irene, Julie and Dawn Berri, Stockton, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Johnson’s family. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at The United Presbyterian Church in Earlville, with Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial information was unavailable Sunday.
