Passerby discovers cadaver
November 1, 1988
Although autopsy results will not be in until later this week, DeKalb police have determined a homicide investigation is not necessary in the death of a DeKalb resident, whose body was found in Huber Park.
DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said Lorenza Jones, 40, who lives on a Dresser Road rural route, was pronounced dead at 4:16 p.m. Saturday.
Miller said Jones’ body was found by a passerby in a wooded area of the park, near the railroad tracks. He said there was “no trauma to the body.”
DeKalb Police Sgt. Chuck Kross said Jones’ death was not a homicide and there would be no further investigation by police.
Miller said toxicology tests will be run on the body to determine if alcohol, drugs or other chemicals were in Jones’ bloodstream. Miller said he determined that Jones was dead for less than 24 hours.
Kross said the police did not know how long Jones’ body was at Huber Park, but it appeared that the body was found “within a couple of hours” after his death.
