Police seize drugs, arrest two residents
November 16, 1988
DeKalb police seized a quantity of cocaine and marijuana with a street value over $2,000 at 835 Edgebrook Apt. 210, where two residents were arrested Monday.
The residents, Phillip Greene, 21, and Ryan Thompson, 22, were arrested for the possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver over 15 grams, DeKalb police said.
The arrest occurred about 6:30 p.m., DeKalb Police Detective Dan Gerace said. He would not say how long police carried out the drug investigation.
Police also seized about $1,100 in drug trafficking money from the apartment.
Greene and Thompson were transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore Monday where they currently are being held, Gerace said.
State’s Attorney Phil DiMarzio said bond for Greene and Thompson was set at $25,000. He said the bond hearing was held Tuesday afternoon, but he did not know if bond was posted by the suspects yet.
A preliminary hearing for Greene and Thompson is set for Dec. 8, DiMarzio said. A public defender was appointed for both men, he said.
According to NIU’s Office of Registration and Records, Greene and Thompson were not NIU students. Although Gerace said he believed they were Kishwaukee College students, a spokesman from Kishwaukee said Greene and Thomspon were not enrolled there for the fall semester.
DiMarzio said the charge is a class X felony with possible penalities of six to 15 years in jail, and maximum fines of up to $500,000.
