Faculty Assembly to discuss Mater Paln of university
November 1, 1988
Eddie Williams, vice president for finance and planning, will lead a discussion of the Master Plan, an analysis of the NIU campus and a guide for future university building projects, at Wednesday’s Faculty Assembly meeting.
The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in room 505 of the Holmes Student Center. Williams is scheduled to speak at 4:30 p.m.
Developed by Sasaki Associates, Inc., of Watertown, Mass., the plan includes proposals to utilize and improve available campus space. The plan was made in cooperation with NIU staff, faculty, student and administrative representatives.
In a foreword to the plan, NIU President John LaTourette states that NIU “is confronted with a physical environment where the increased demand on facilities, particularly classrooms, laboratories and office space has resulted in serious overcrowding ….” He calls the plan a “framework for the systematic development of future facilities.”
According to the plan summary, renovations will include an east-west pedestrian mall between the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commons and Annie Glidden Road. The summary proposes an extensive renovation of the commons, including the permanent enclosure of Carroll Avenue.
