Committee to determine ownership of bookstore
November 29, 1988
The NIU Holmes Student Center Bookstore Evaluation Committee will make a recommendation to administrators Wednesday whether to stay university operated or to lease to a private owner.
At its Nov. 23 meeting, the committee decided it has enough information to make a decision regarding the bookstore’s privatization, which it will do Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
The members will have a final discussion of all the information obtained before voting, which they will do by secret ballot.
Also at the Nov. 23 meeting, NIU Assistant Provost Lynne Waldeland said the committee should put together a statement on “what the committee wants out of the bookstore no matter which way it (the vote) goes.”
Bookstore Secretary Margie Marshall and committee member Morton Frisch said a committee of faculty members should be set up to address the trade book issue.
