Let the crooks snooze on the floor in Chicago
November 21, 1988
Once again, I am amazed by the stuff that goes on in Chicago. Women raped in public, a drunk on every train and hundreds of criminals getting out of jail because they ain’t got enough room for them.
This has gotta be the most unbelievable crap I’ve ever heard. If you get busted in Chicago and the judge sets your bond at less than $50,000 you ain’t gotta pay. They let you out anyway. And they’re gonna start letting you out free if the bond is less than $100,000. (Are they adjusting for inflation or what?)
Yea, it seems that there aren’t enough beds for each of the criminals so some gotta sleep on mattresses on the floor. Poor babies.
But it’s against the law to have more prisoners than beds so they gotta let all these crooks out until their trial date. If they don’t let the prisoners out the county officials could get fined $1,000 a day.
This is unbelievable. We gotta let prisoners out because some judge doesn’t want them sleeping on the floor. How in the hell did this guy get to be a judge?
So, what does this mean to you, Joe Citizen? It means that if you get mugged or your house gets robbed and somehow the crook gets caught, he’ll get right back out until he goes to trial. Then he’ll go to trial and probably get a suspended sentence because there aren’t enough beds for convicted criminals either.
We’re letting criminals out because they don’t have a bed!? “I wish I had a solution. We’re concerned because they’re pretty serious offenders,” said Chief Circuit Court Judge Harry G. Comerford.
Concerned? Come on Harry. You’re concerned! What about the people who have to live in bad neighborhoods and use public transportation? What about the little old lady who gets mugged and then sees the mugger out next week and she can’t do a thing. I wonder if she is concerned?
“I wish I had a solution.” Sure Harry. Like this is a tough one. I already got it figured out for you.
Leave them in the prison. Let them sleep on the floor. I really won’t be upset if a mugger has to sleep on the floor. I won’t even be upset if the mugger gets beat up or raped—might deter him from robbing someone when he looks back on the warm nights spent cuddling with a 300 pound ape. But then on second thought, I can’t condone the raping of prisoners. That would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Cruel and unusual. As a taxpayer do you consider it cruel and unusual to make a criminal sleep on a mattress on the floor?
Jeez, there are thousands of people in Chicago who would consider it a luxury to have even the mattress. Screw the criminals. Let them sleep in rows on a cold floor with a blanket. Give the beds to homeless shelters and the poor.
How about asking the people. Do you think we should let accused criminals out because there aren’t enough beds for them? Should we waste more of your tax dollars building prison additions so all the crooks can be comfy?
If you’re from the Chicago area I think you should let your lawmakers know how you feel. Does it really bother you that the guy who mugged you would have to sleep on the floor if they didn’t let him out?
“A few weeks ago I observed more compassion for three whales than I have seen for the people walking the streets of Chicago,” said Police Supt. LeRoy Martin.
That is so true. Every night for two weeks we see two whales on the TV. Swell. If they hadn’t been hunted to near extinction we wouldn’t have had to save them anyway.
Why don’t the TV crews set up in front of the Cook County Jail. Every day they can show pictures of the hundred-odd criminals being released because they ain’t got a bed. Maybe then the politicians will pass some sane laws that protect the rights of people who work for a living and not the scum who rob us and sell drugs to our kids.
