Regents meet on SSU staff
November 1, 1988
During a closed meeting at Illinois State University Sunday, the Board of Regents discussed Sangamon State University personnel matters, but Regents staff member Phil Adams declined comment on whether the issue of SSU president Durward Long was addressed.
In early September, Long was granted a 60-day medical leave of absence for alcohol abuse and extreme fatigue.
Long did not receive a salary increase at the Oct. 3 Regents meeting because he was in a treatment program in Florida when reviews of Regency presidents were conducted.
That and “other circumstances” prompted the Regents to not increase his salary, Regent Chairman Carol Burns said.
There were also allegations that Long fondled a student.
