Children needed

I was truly dismayed when I read the recent editorial written by Jeff Vogelsang, on Sept. 19. I was sad because I feel Jeff was playing on the emotions of students who may not have time to research the facts about which he writes.

Since 1973, when abortion was legalized, approximately 1.6 million abortions are performed every year in the U.S., which in 15 years, equals 26 million babies, destroyed while in the nurturing womb of their mother, by their mother. If rape accounts for about 2,000 of those babies, what rationale can account for the other 26 million victims?

America needs its children, they are the hope of the future. Perhaps they will find a way to end wars, and live in peace with our neighbors. The figure, 26 million babies, represents the equivalent population of nine western states being wiped off the map. If any other catastrophe would result in even 1 in 1 million of the fatalities as those that occur due to abortion, the people of the U.S. would demand restitution to and retribution of the perpetrators.

Who speaks for the little babe in the womb? Will killing the baby cause any less trauma to the mother? Doubtful. It is hard to forget a violent crime, much less participate in another soon after. Victims of rape are encouraged to seek medical treatment soon after the occurance.

Isn’t giving a baby up for adoption a much more positive response to a violent act? Hundreds of families are waiting for the chance to become a parent. Adoptive babies are so precious and few in number that often couples are discouraged from even being allowed to put their names on a waiting list.
