Friday night fiasco
October 3, 1988
Well NIU black greeks, you did it again. Talk about a party! Not only did the members of Omega Psi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities show the true meaning of “brotherhood” at the Friday night fiasco, they also succeeded in proving to everyone who ever doubted the existance of unity within the black race that they were so right. I may be stupid in thinking that since blacks are the minority on this campus anyway, that it would be a good idea to at least make an attempt to get along with each other, as well as try to break down the barriers that impede the progression of the black man, and keep you apart. I guess I was also stupid to think that since the black greeks play a very influential role in the black campus community, that they (if no one else) would be the first to make an effort to lead blacks in this great struggle. So instead of trying to see who can outstep each other and yell the loudest at the parties, everyone (not just the greeks) should sit down and take a good, long look at what the “purpose” of the black greek organization is.
