SA to elect senate speaker

The Student Association will elect its senate speaker at Sunday’s meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Heritage Room.
The three candidates for the position are Senators Joe Annunzio, Regina Hudson and Mike Stumpf.
The SA Constitution states the position is elected by and from the senate by a majority vote. The speaker also can be removed by a two-thirds vote.
The constitution also states the duties of the speaker include chief spokesperson of the legislative branch, advising and assisting the student senate and the executive branch in the planning and development of programs that further the goals and purposes of the SA, coordinating all internal matters of the legislative branch, ensuring the appointment of members to the standing committees with the help of the senate, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of a set of operating rules and procedures for the student senate and performing any other duties assigned by the student senate.
