Regents pick SSU president
September 7, 1988
An interim president for Sangamon State University was selected Wednesday by the Board of Regents in a special telephone conference call meeting. However, the new president’s name has not been released yet.
Regent Brewster Parker said the reason for the delay in releasing information is because the Regents were unable to notify the person they selected.
A 24 hour notice has to be given to the person before being named, so the Regents will hold another conference call meeting today at 3:30 p.m., Parker said. The name of the interim president will be released at that time, he said.
The need for an interim president arose after SSU President Durward Long requested a 60-day medical leave of absence for alcohol abuse and extreme fatigue.
Long will seek evaluation to determine whether he is an alcoholic.
Long’s leave was effective Sept. 5.
