Charity basketball game set

Basketball enthusiasts can participate in NIU’s first annual three-on-three basketball game for charity.

The event, sponsored by Lambda Chi fraternity and the Village Commons Bookstore, 901 Lucinda Ave., will be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Recreation Center on courts one and two.

All proceeds from the event will go to the American Diabetes Association. Lambda Chi Vice President Jeff Parker said the reason for holding the event is to improve community relations.

The entrance fee per team is $10, and Parker said any NIU student can enter.

Teams can register Tuesday at a table set up outside the Holmes Student Center Pow Wow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parker said there is a limit of 128 teams that can participate in the event.

If 128 teams sign up, a first prize of about $150 and gift certificates will be awarded and a second prize of about $75 will be awarded, Parker said.

He said the sponsors hope to raise $1,000 for the ADA.

Event t-shirts also are being sold by the registration tables, Parker said.
