Women’s Club to hold annual fall reception

The University Women’s Club’s fall reception will be held at NIU President John LaTourette’s home on Sept. 22 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will focus on the 1988 general elections campaign.

The reception is organized to welcome back existing members and recruit new ones, said publicity Chairman Carol Brown.

We also will be signing up for interest groups. We have about 21 different interest groups within the organization,” Brown said.

The interest groups range from literary study groups to gardening and cooking.

The club is comprised of women employed by NIU, spouses of university employees and retirees.

It is a non-profit group with philanthropic and educational interests and contains over 200 active members said Brown.

The organization has tentative plans for a lecture series in October and November for group members, said club Vice President Sue Mellard.

“There is also an annual Holiday Ball held every December in the university’s (Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington) ballroom,” she said.

Mellard also said there are plans for a possible scholarship fund. However, nothing is definite at this point.
