DeKalb Police are investigating a sexual assault that occured early Wednesday on the northwest side of DeKalb.

DeKalb Police Sgt. Charles Kross said there are suspects in the case but declined to comment any further on the investigation or say whether the victim knew her attacker.

The victim was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital by ambulance and was treated and released after the incident which took place between 1 and 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Criminal sexual assault is a Class I Felony which is punishible with four to 15 years in prison and fines.
