NIU Sigma Chi plans workshop
August 9, 1988
The NIU chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity will host about 1,300 fellow Sigma Chi members at the fraternity’s 41st annual Leadership Training Workshop Aug. 11-14.
Bram Hornstein, NIU chapter president, said this is the third time the fraternity has hosted the workshop at NIU in the past 15 years. Hornstein said the national chapter chose NIU because of DeKalb’s central location and the campus’ ability to accommodate the visitors.
The Leadership Training Workshop is the largest in the greek-letter world. Lectures and discussions will be held discussing leadership roles within the chapters and methods of maintaining a successful chapter. Scholarship, public relations within the univeristy community, and alcohol and drug problem awareness will be addressed.
Cliff Panczyk, past president of the NIU chapter, said the most important thing the conference offers Sigma Chi members is advice from experienced alumni. Members attend lectures and can discuss common problems with different chapters, gaining knowledge from other chapters’ experiences.
The NIU chapter has been preparing for the conference for about a year. Workshop participants will be housed in Grant Towers during the seminar and will eat in the residence hall cafeterias.
