Dukakis supporters to gather

Michael Bakalis, chairman of the “Dukakis for President” campaign in Illinois, will address the DeKalb community at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at Inn of DeKalb (formerly Holiday Inn).

The purpose of the meeting is to establish and coordinate concerned citizens from DeKalb and surrounding areas to form a core from which the Dukakis campaign can operate in this area.

Many local politicians and dignitaries have been invited, but Bakalis stresses the meeting is for all concerned citizens.

“We’re trying to reach more than just the traditional Democrats and politicians,” Bakalis said.

Bakalis also will touch upon some of the issues affecting the Dukakis campaign. This includes renewing the whole idea of the American dream by restoring economic growth and getting the middle class back into the economic engine.

Bakalis, formerly an NIU history professor, is a past comptroller for the state of Illinois, and former state superintendent of education. He is presently dean of the school of education at Loyola University, Chicago.
