Committee to report on HSC security
April 18, 1988
The ad-hoc committee formed to investigate the Holmes Student Center Bookstore security policies and procedures is in the process of drafting a report of recommendation, Committee Chairman William Parker said.
Committee member Bertrand Simpson said there is “no question” the committee will submit a report to James Harder, vice president for business and operations, by the end of the semester.
Simpson said the committee, which has met weekly since its formation in early February, has met with everyone intended to be interviewed.
“We may—underline may—be able to wrap up our part by the end of the week,” Simpson, NIU’s ombudsman, said.
The committee, designed in response to a Jan. 21 incident in which four black NIU students were accused of shoplifting, was asked to investigate allegations of racism in the bookstore and reported threats against bookstore employees.
