Serving as the voice for mainstream students on campus and promoting on-campus interests are two goals of SA presidential candidate Dan Donnelly.
“Students want more involvement,” he said.
Establishing a tradition at NIU also is one of Donnelly’s goals. He said NIU should plan one big event each semester that attracts a lot of people.
Donnelly said he would improve the effectiveness of the presidential position by bringing in fresh ideas and a new image. He said he would project his positive image by taking a full class load and stressing academics.
He said if the job of SA president requires so much time that the president cannot maintain high grades, then there is something wrong with the system. Just because past presidents have put in so much time does not mean it is required, Donnelly said.
The key to promoting better relations between the SA and other organizations is listening to the concerns of the organizations before the senate makes decisions or plans, he said.
Establishing a few long-term goals to be focused on throughout the year rather than doing many things haphazardly is one way to make the SA more effective, he said.
