Support Radtke
March 25, 1988
As the executive elections for the Student Association approach, students should make themselves aware of the positions being sought and those candidates with the necessary qualifications. The office of president, in particular, requires a great amount of knowledge of organizational procedures and issues. Only a student within the SA serving different facets of the university community would meet the needs of the students.
Paula Radtke, current public relations adviser, has been involved in the SA for two years. Last year, as assistant public relations adviser, she worked toward obtaining the student Regent vote, an issue that is still of concern to students. Paula has been continually monitoring the progress of the legislation that would give students equal representation on the Board of Regents. This year, she represented NIU at the Illinois Student Association meetings at various campuses. She was greatly responsible for the passage of the I.S.A. referendum here at NIU, providing the I.S.A. with direct support from the students. These issues in themselves display a broad scope of involvement with long-term benefits. Last semester she was active in organizing a lobby day in Springfield on the Day of Action, as well as writing informational literature for the student body. She also is on the University Advisory Resources Committee, Honorary Degree Committee, and SCOPA while she serves as a Judicial Advocate.
The type of SA president that NIU needs right now is one who represents the students’interests as well as one who can promote a positive campus image to others. As students who have worked closely with Paula in the SA, we know that her ability to reach out and coordinate the SA into a unifying body of students working for students is a prerequisite for a well-qualified president. She has the dedication, motivation and determination to work for students’ rights, now and in the future. Consider these qualifications and others when casting your vote for president. We need a student association that works and we need Paula Radtke as president.
