Vice presidential candidate Ed Gil said he plans to “serve as the voice for mainstream students” and would like to “promote on-campus student interests.”
With an open-door policy, he wants the organizations “to come see us.” He said he “invites all organizations in to see what (he) can do for them.”
He said he would like to see more professionalism in the presidential and vice presidential positions which would generate professionalism in other areas.
Many senators who attend Student Association senate meetings are not listening, doing homework, listening to radios and watching television, he said. He wants to see senators “paying attention to the issues.”
Gil also said minority teachers should remain at NIU as role models for minority students. He said he wants to decrease the minority student drop-out rate by providing better services, clinics and tutors for them.
Gil is a graduate assistant for the Center of Latino/Latin American Studies and served on the student senate for two years at his junior college.
